Alert! The conference has been postponed until further notice.

In view of the difficult circumstances brought upon Puerto Rico by the passage of hurricane Maria, the chancellor of the university has decided to postpone the conference on Recent Advances in Biological Sciences. We deeply regret any inconvenience caused by this decision.

The hurricane and its aftermath are being covered by world media, so most of you might already have an idea of the situation of our island. Strong winds and torrential rainfall have caused extensive damage to power transmission lines, roads, bridges and telecommunication infrastructure. In the days following the hurricane, there is a shortage of food, water and basic necessities. Many communities in remote parts of the island have been left inaccessible and isolated by fallen bridges and damaged roads. It is estimated that it might take months to restore electricity throughout the island.

But our spirit is intact and we look forward to organizing the conference next year in summer and hope that you will join us. It is unfortunate that we could not bring each of you and your wonderful science to Puerto Rico this year, but we know that we can count on your support.
